He is thawed out in 2032 and must battle through a futuristic Los Angeles to save it from the criminal mastermind Simon Phoenix.
The game features many different levels set in various locations around the city, such as a subway station, an amusement park, and a sewer system. Each level contains its own unique enemies, obstacles, and hazards that must be overcome before progressing to the next level. The player can use several weapons including pistols, shotguns, and grenades to fight their way through each stage. As well as enemies, the player must also navigate through traps such as exploding barrels and electrified floors.
As they progress through the game the player will earn points which can be used to purchase upgrades for their character or buy items such as health packs or ammunition. A special “demo man” mode is also available which allows the player to enter into a state of heightened awareness and agility allowing them to move faster and deal more damage with their attacks. This mode can only be activated by collecting certain power ups throughout the game or by achieving certain scores on levels.
The graphics in Demolition Man are quite basic but still serviceable for its time period with bright colors being used throughout each level giving it an almost cartoon-like feel to it. The soundtrack is quite upbeat and catchy making it enjoyable to listen to while playing through each stage of the game.
Overall Demolition Man is an enjoyable action game that offers plenty of challenge without becoming frustratingly difficult too quickly. With its varied levels, interesting gameplay mechanics, catchy soundtrack, and vibrant visuals this title is sure to provide hours of entertainment for fans of classic side scrolling games looking for something new and exciting on their Sega CD/Mega-CD console.
