Bio Metal is a side-scrolling shooter video game developed by Natsume and published by Hudson Soft for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It was released in Japan in 1993, and later in North America and Europe in 1994. The game follows a group of scientists who have created a new type of metal, referred to as "Bio Metal" which has the capability to merge with other metals and create powerful weapons. The scientists are then attacked by an evil alien race known as the "Bio Beasts" who are intent on stealing the Bio Metal for their own use. The player takes control of a prototype Bio Metal-enhanced mecha suit called "The Power Suit", which they must use to battle the Bio Beasts and protect the scientists.
The gameplay of Bio Metal consists of shooting enemies, navigating through levels, collecting power-ups, and using special abilities granted by different pieces of equipment acquired throughout the game. Players progress through levels by defeating all enemies within them, collecting items such as coins and health power-ups, and finding hidden doors that lead to boss battles or bonus stages. The Power Suit is equipped with two main weapons - a machine gun and homing missiles - but can also be upgraded with additional weapons such as flamethrowers or lasers that can be used to defeat stronger enemies more quickly. Additionally, players can collect "Power Parts" which grant additional abilities such as increased speed or invincibility for a limited time.
The presentation of Bio Metal is quite stylish with its vibrant colors and detailed sprites giving it an overall futuristic feel. The soundtrack is also quite impressive with its catchy techno beats accompanying intense shoot-em-up action perfectly while creating an atmosphere that matches perfectly with the sci-fi setting of the game.
Overall, Bio Metal is an exciting sci-fi shooter that offers some unique features not seen in other games at the time. Its vibrant graphics, catchy soundtrack, addictive gameplay elements make it an enjoyable experience even today despite its age. Players looking for something different from traditional shooters should give this classic gem a try!
