Shining Force is a turn-based tactical role-playing game developed by Sega and originally released in Japan for the Sega CD (Mega-CD) in 1993. The game was later re-released for various other systems, including the Game Gear and the Sega Saturn. In Shining Force, players take on the role of a young swordsman named Max and lead him and his allies through a series of battles against an evil empire called Runefaust. The player must assemble their own team of characters to fight these enemies, each with their own unique abilities and strengths.
The game's story follows Max as he attempts to stop Runefaust from conquering his homeland. Along the way, he meets a variety of allies who join him in his quest. These allies include characters such as Sarah, an elf archer; Kane, a dwarf fighter; Guntz, a centaur warrior; Bow, a halfling thief; and many more. As they progress through the game, they gain experience points which can be used to increase their stats and learn new abilities. Along with this main storyline are numerous side quests which can provide additional rewards or unlock powerful items to help on their journey.
The gameplay of Shining Force is divided into two parts: exploration and combat. During exploration sections, players will explore towns, dungeons and other locations in search of items or clues that will help them progress through the story or prepare them for upcoming battles. Combat occurs when players encounter enemy forces on the battlefield or during certain story events. Here players will use their characters’ unique skills to defeat their opponents while attempting to complete objectives such as capturing certain targets or defeating all enemies within a set amount of turns.
Throughout the course of the game, there are several key points where players can save their progress so that they can resume it at any time later on - something which was quite revolutionary at its time since most games did not offer this feature until much later on in gaming history. Furthermore, after completing certain chapters or events throughout the game’s story mode, players are rewarded with special bonuses such as powerful items or even extra playable characters that can be added to your team roster!
All in all, Shining Force is considered one of Sega’s classic titles due to its engaging storyline combined with its strategic turn-based combat system - making it one of the most beloved tactical RPGs ever created!
