Wolfchild is a side-scrolling action game developed by Core Design and released for the Sega Game Gear in 1993. The game follows protagonist Saul McKenzie, a half-human/half-wolf creature known as a “wolfchild”, as he embarks on a quest to save his people from the evil clutches of an unknown enemy.
The game begins with Saul discovering that the wolf pack he belongs to has been attacked and decimated by an unknown force. With the help of his mentor, Saul learns that he is actually a “wolfchild” – part human, part wolf – and that his people have been taken captive by none other than Dr. Karl Von Reissen, an evil scientist who has been experimenting on Saul’s kind in order to create an army of super soldiers under his control. In order to rescue his people, Saul must travel across various levels, battling enemies and obstacles along the way with weapons such as guns, bombs and energy shields.
Gameplay in Wolfchild consists of two distinct parts: platforming sections where players must navigate through hazardous environments while avoiding enemies or hazards; and action sequences where players must battle their opponents with their weapons or use special abilities such as transforming into a wolf form. The player also has access to power-ups which can be used for health regeneration or increased firepower during combat sequences.
Throughout the course of the game, players will encounter bosses which must be defeated before progressing further in the story. Defeating these bosses often unlocks new abilities or items which can be used throughout the rest of the game. Additionally, some levels contain bonus stages which can provide additional rewards such as additional life points or bonus items upon completion.
Overall, Wolfchild combines elements of action and platforming genres into one enjoyable package that fans of either genre will appreciate. The combination of intense combat sequences and challenging platforming levels makes for an engaging gaming experience that will keep players coming back for more. The vibrant visuals are also sure to impress those looking for something visually appealing on their Game Gear console, making Wolfchild an excellent choice for anyone looking for an entertaining adventure title on this classic system
