Super Tennis is a sports video game developed by Nintendo for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). It was released in Japan and North America in 1992, and in Europe the following year. The game is a sequel to the original Tennis for the NES, and features improved graphics and sound, as well as new gameplay elements.
The objective of Super Tennis is to win each match by scoring more points than your opponent. Points are scored when one player fails to return the ball or commits a fault. Matches are played on various court surfaces including grass, clay, hard court, and carpet. Each surface has different properties that affect ball speed and bounce. Players have a choice of eight characters with different playing styles and abilities. The game also features five tournament cups with varying difficulty levels.
The controls of Super Tennis are simple yet effective. Using the directional pad on the SNES controller, players move their character around the court while using buttons A and B to hit forehand or backhand shots respectively. Players can also perform lobs and smashes using combinations of buttons as well as execute special moves such as diving volleys or drop shots. Additionally, players can customize their character’s racket type, grip type, string tension, spin rate, power rating, control rating, accuracy rating, etc., allowing for an extra layer of strategy during matches.
Super Tennis also includes several other modes such as Exhibition Mode which allows two players to face off against each other; Practice Mode which allows players to practice their skills; Challenge Mode where players must complete various challenges; Tournament Mode where up to four players can compete against each other in a single-elimination tournament; and League Mode where two teams can compete against each other over multiple rounds for points towards promotion or relegation from leagues A through G respectively based on performance throughout the season.
Overall Super Tennis is an excellent tennis title for the SNES that offers great visuals thanks to its colorful sprites and detailed courts; smooth animations; intuitive controls; fun multiplayer modes; numerous customization options; challenging AI opponents; and lots of replay value due to its varied gameplay modes.
