Tecmo Super Bowl III - Final Edition is a football video game released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1995. It is the third and final installment of the Tecmo Super Bowl series. The game was developed and published by Tecmo and was released exclusively in North America.
The game features all 28 teams from the 1994 NFL season, as well as two all-star teams, which are made up of players selected from each team. All teams have their own logos and uniforms, as well as their own playbooks containing offensive and defensive strategies. Players can choose to play either a single exhibition game or an entire season with up to 8 human or computer-controlled teams.
Gameplay focuses on simulating an American football match between two teams, with players controlling individual players on the field and making decisions such as passing, running, kicking, blocking, and tackling. The game also features detailed animations for each player, including tackles, fumbles, injuries and celebrations. Additionally, it includes options to customize team rosters as well as create custom plays. Once a game is completed stats such as yards gained/lost, touchdowns scored/allowed are displayed along with a list of awards for individual players such as MVPs for both offense and defense.
The game also includes various modes such as Two Minute Drill (a mini-game where one team must score within two minutes) and Practice Mode (where players can practice plays without opposition). Additionally there is a Season Mode which allows players to experience an entire NFL season with playoffs included if desired. This mode also features customizable options such as difficulty levels (rookie/pro/all pro), length of quarters (7 minutes or less) and salary caps for each team in order to balance out the competition among different teams. Finally the game includes a unique "Super Bowl" mode which allows two human players to compete against each other in a simulated Super Bowl match up with commentary from sportscasters Pat Summerall & John Madden providing analysis throughout the match.
In conclusion Tecmo Super Bowl III – Final Edition stands out as one of the best football games available for the SNES console thanks to its detailed animations, deep customization options and wide variety of gameplay modes that provide hours of entertainment for both casual gamers looking for an arcade-style experience or hardcore fans looking for a more realistic simulation experience.
