Ghostbusters II is a 1989 action-adventure video game released for the Nintendo Game Boy. Developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Activision, it is based on the film of the same name. The game follows the plot of the movie, with players controlling one of the four Ghostbusters as they battle against Vigo and his minions.
In Ghostbusters II, the player takes control of one of four Ghostbusters (Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Egon Spengler, or Winston Zeddemore). Each character has their own unique abilities which must be used in order to progress through each level. In addition to fighting ghosts, players must also navigate through dangerous environments filled with traps and obstacles. The goal is to reach each stage’s exit without getting killed by enemies or running out of lives. Along the way, players can collect power-ups such as extra lives and health items to help them survive longer.
Players travel through five distinct levels in total: Central Park; Library; Museum; Subway; and Vigo’s Castle. Each level has its own unique set of enemies and obstacles that must be overcome in order to progress further into the game. As they progress, players will encounter various boss characters including Slimer, Janosz Poha, and Vigo himself. Once all five levels have been completed, players are taken to a final confrontation against Vigo at his castle where they must defeat him once and for all.
Ghostbusters II was well received upon release for its faithful recreation of the movie’s story along with its challenging gameplay mechanics. It was praised for its detailed graphics and sound effects which helped bring the movie’s world alive on Nintendo’s handheld system. The game also features an original soundtrack which perfectly captures the tone of Ghostbusters II while also giving it a unique identity separate from other games on the Game Boy platform.
Overall, Ghostbusters II stands as one of Activision’s most beloved titles for Nintendo Game Boy due to its faithful recreation of a classic film combined with challenging gameplay mechanics that kept players coming back for more ghost busting fun!
