Mortal Kombat II is a fighting game that was released by Sega for the Game Gear in 1994. It is the sequel to the original Mortal Kombat, which was released in 1992.
The game follows the same basic premise as its predecessor: Players take control of one of a number of characters and battle their way through various opponents to ultimately face off against the “boss” character, Shao Kahn. The characters are split into two sides – good and evil – with each side having its own special moves and fatalities. The graphics are presented in a 2D side-scrolling format, as opposed to the 3D graphics of later installments in the series.
The gameplay consists of several rounds, with players attempting to deplete their opponent’s health bar before their own runs out. As with other games in the series, players can use special moves and fatalities to finish off their opponents if they can successfully execute them. Fatalities are particularly powerful attacks which can only be used when an opponent’s health bar is low enough; if successful, these attacks will instantly kill an opponent regardless of how much health they have left.
In addition to the single-player mode, Mortal Kombat II also features a two-player mode in which two players can battle it out against each other using either link cables or via infrared communication. This version also features some exclusive characters not found in other versions of Mortal Kombat II such as Scorpion and Reptile.
Overall, Mortal Kombat II is an enjoyable game that still stands up today thanks to its simple but addictive gameplay mechanics and iconic characters. While it may not be as advanced as more modern fighting games on newer systems, it remains a classic that fans are sure to enjoy going back to time and time again.
