Spider-Man and the X-Men in Arcades Revenge is a side-scrolling action game that was released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1995. The game is based on the popular Marvel comic book series, and it follows the adventures of Spider-Man, Wolverine, Gambit, Cyclops, Storm, and Rogue as they battle against Arcade and his minions.
Players take control of one of the six X-Men as they travel through four different levels which are set in various locations such as a mall, a factory, an underwater laboratory, and Arcade’s hideout. Each level contains numerous enemies that must be defeated with a combination of hand to hand combat and special moves unique to each character. Along the way there are various power ups that can be collected which will increase health or grant special abilities.
The game features several mini-games throughout each level that can be completed for extra points. These mini-games include shooting galleries where targets must be hit with projectiles or projectiles must be dodged from incoming enemies. There are also puzzles which require players to match up pieces or complete mazes while avoiding enemies.
At the end of each level players will face off against one of Arcade’s henchmen who must be defeated in order to progress further into the game. Once all four levels have been completed players will face off against Arcade himself in a final showdown where victory will reward them with an ending cutscene featuring all their favorite characters from the comics.
Overall Spider-Man and the X-Men in Arcades Revenge is an enjoyable action platformer that fans of Marvel comics will enjoy playing. With its unique gameplay elements such as mini games and puzzle solving combined with exciting action sequences it stands out amongst other SNES titles of its time period and remains a classic to this day.
