Doukyuusei 2 is a Super Nintendo game released in Japan in 1995. It is a romance simulation game, similar to the popular Tokimeki Memorial series, which was released for the PC-98 computer system in 1994. The game follows a young high school student as he navigates his way through the complexities of teenage love and relationships.
The player takes on the role of protagonist Makoto Fujisawa, a third-year student at Sakuraba High School. After having made friends with Akane Tachibana, a transfer student from Tokyo, Makoto's life takes an unexpected turn when he meets the mysterious girl Eriko Kirishima. Eriko is an enigmatic beauty who seems to know more about Makoto than he does himself. She claims that she has known him since childhood and can sense his innermost thoughts and feelings. As their relationship develops, Makoto discovers that there are secrets hidden within Eriko's past and begins to unravel them while trying to win her heart.
The gameplay of Doukyuusei 2 revolves around conversations between Makoto and other characters in order to build relationships with them. These conversations take place during time periods such as lunchtime at school or after class on weekends. During these conversations, players must select the right responses in order to make progress with each character they interact with. Players also have access to a variety of mini-games which can be played in order to earn extra points or money which can then be used to purchase items for use during conversations or sent as gifts as tokens of affection for certain characters.
The graphics are quite basic but serve their purpose well enough for this type of game; there are no fancy 3D visuals here but rather sprites that represent characters and environments which look like they’ve been taken straight from an anime adaptation of the story. The music is also quite simple but catchy; it’s just enough to keep you engaged without becoming too repetitive or annoying.
Overall, Doukyuusei 2 is an enjoyable Super Nintendo experience that manages to capture all the charm and drama of teenage relationships without being too overbearing on players who may not necessarily be interested in this particular genre of gaming. It’s easy enough for newcomers to understand yet still offers plenty of depth for those who are willing to put some time into learning its intricacies; ultimately making it an ideal entry point into dating simulators for gamers looking for something different from their usual fare.
