Power Monger is a real-time strategy game released in 1991 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). It was developed by Bullfrog Productions, a British video game developer founded by Peter Molyneux, who later went on to create the popular simulation game series The Sims. The game takes place in a fantasy world with anthropomorphic animals and humans as its inhabitants. Players take control of a single leader and build their own kingdom, using resources such as food and gold to construct buildings, hire troops, and expand their territory.

The main objective of Power Monger is to conquer all of the other kingdoms in the land. Players can choose from one of four different races: humans, elves, dwarves or orcs. Each race has its own unique strengths and weaknesses that must be taken into account when building an army and constructing buildings. Resources can be gathered from various sources such as forests, mines, farms and fishing spots. In addition to gathering resources players must also manage their population through taxation and trade agreements with other kingdoms.

The game also features diplomacy options where players can form alliances with other rulers or declare war on them. Alliances can be made through treaties or marriage between rulers while war requires an actual physical attack on another kingdom’s holdings or citizens. War is fought in real time with both sides taking turns moving their troops around the map to capture enemy territories or defend their own lands. Combat is resolved through dice rolls which determine how much damage each side inflicts on the other during battle.

Players can also join forces with neighboring kings by forming a federation which gives them access to more powerful units and spells that they wouldn’t normally have access to otherwise. In addition to combat there are numerous economic decisions that need to be made such as setting taxes for your citizens or building public works projects like roads or bridges which will help increase your kingdom’s wealth over time.

Power Monger was well received upon release for its innovative gameplay mechanics and deep strategic elements which allowed players to customize their experience based on their playstyle. While it may not have been as commercially successful as some of Bullfrog’s later titles it remains an interesting title that still holds up today due to its engaging mechanics and challenging AI opponents.
