Nobunaga’s Ambition - Lord of Darkness is a grand strategy and tactical role-playing game released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1995. Developed by Koei and published by KOEI Tecmo, this game is set in Japan during the Sengoku period, a time of social upheaval, political intrigue, and military conflict between rival clans. Players take on the role of a daimyo, a feudal lord seeking to unite all of Japan under one banner. To accomplish this goal, players must manage their resources, build armies and alliances, engage in diplomatic negotiations with other clans, develop their domains through trade and industrialization, and participate in battles against enemy forces.
The game is divided into two main modes: Grand Strategy mode and Battle Mode. In Grand Strategy mode, players are presented with an overhead view of Japan which they can use to navigate around their domain as well as those of other clans. Here players can construct buildings such as castles or farms to increase their income; send diplomats to negotiate with other clans; or move armies around the map to engage in battle with enemy forces. The game also features an economic system that allows players to trade goods across domains for profit. Players can also manage their army units by assigning them tasks such as scouting for enemies or attacking rival forces.
In Battle Mode, players control individual units on a battlefield where they must fight against enemy forces using tactics such as flanking maneuvers or feints. Each unit has its own unique attributes such as attack power or defense that can be used strategically in battle. Players must also make strategic decisions regarding when to retreat from battle and when to press forward depending on their current situation on the field. Battles are turn-based with each player taking turns issuing commands to their units until one side emerges victorious or both sides reach a stalemate due to exhaustion of resources or morale loss among troops.
There are two primary objectives in Nobunaga’s Ambition - Lord of Darkness: uniting Japan under one banner and achieving immortality by becoming an immortal ruler who will live forever among his people. Both objectives require extensive strategic planning as well as tactical prowess on the battlefield if the player wishes to succeed against rival clans vying for power over Japan’s provinces. With its deep strategic gameplay mechanics combined with intense tactical battles, Nobunaga’s Ambition - Lord of Darkness is one of the best grand strategy games ever released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and continues to remain popular among fans today
