Cannon Fodder is a classic super nintendo game released in 1993 by Sensible Software. The game is a top-down shooter with an objective of completing missions while controlling a squad of up to four soldiers. Players control the squad through various levels, destroying enemy forces, rescuing hostages and completing objectives to progress. The game consists of two main parts: the main campaign and mini-missions.
The main campaign takes place in fictional locations such as jungles, deserts, cities and snowfields as players battle their way through enemy territory. Players choose from different types of weapons including machine guns, shotguns, rockets and grenades to defeat their enemies. In addition to shooting enemies, players must also complete objectives such as rescuing hostages or collecting items from crates scattered throughout each level. At the end of each mission, players receive points based on their performance and are rewarded with medals for completing certain tasks.
The mini-missions are short levels that can be played either alone or with friends in multiplayer mode. These levels feature different objectives such as blowing up bridges or sabotaging enemy bases. Each mini-mission rewards players with points that can be used to upgrade their squad's weapons or purchase additional equipment for future missions.
Cannon Fodder has become a classic due to its simple yet challenging gameplay and humorous cartoon graphics. The game features a unique soundtrack composed by Jon Hare which adds an extra layer of atmosphere to the experience. While it may not have aged particularly well compared to other titles released around the same time period, Cannon Fodder is still remembered fondly by many fans who grew up playing it on the Super Nintendo console.
