Lost Vikings II: Norse by Norsewest is a side-scrolling platform game released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1997. Developed by Silicon & Synapse, now known as Blizzard Entertainment, Lost Vikings II is the sequel to The Lost Vikings and was later ported to the Sega Saturn and PC platforms.
The game follows three Viking characters, Erik the Swift, Olaf the Stout, and Baleog the Fierce, who were abducted by Tomator, an alien emperor from outer space. In order to escape his clutches they must travel through time to defeat him. Players control each of these characters at different times throughout the game and must use their individual abilities to progress. Erik is fast and can jump high; Olaf can block enemy attacks with his shield; and Baleog has a sword he can use to attack enemies. Each character also has unique items that they can use such as bombs or keys that open doors.
In order for players to progress through levels they must solve puzzles using each character’s abilities in combination with one another. This often involves utilizing environmental objects like switches or levers which need to be activated in order for doors to open or platforms to move. Players will also encounter various enemies throughout their journey who must be defeated in order for them to advance further into the level. Additionally there are several mini-games scattered throughout which provide additional challenge and fun for players.
Lost Vikings II: Norse by Norsewest offers a unique blend of puzzle solving and platforming action that was well received by critics upon its release. The game’s colorful visuals and humorous dialogue help bring its world alive while providing an enjoyable gaming experience that fans of both genres will appreciate. Although quite challenging at times due to its puzzle elements it still remains accessible enough so that all gamers can enjoy it regardless of their skill level.
