Desert Strike - Return to the Gulf is a classic Super Nintendo game released in 1993 that takes place during the Persian Gulf War. The game follows the story of a nameless helicopter pilot known only as “Screamin’” who is tasked with completing various missions in the Middle East.
The player can choose from four different helicopters, including a Cobra and Apache, each with their own unique weapons and abilities. The first mission begins in Saudi Arabia where Screamin’ must destroy an enemy base. As the game progresses, Screamin’ will travel to Iraq, Kuwait and other parts of the Middle East to complete various objectives such as rescuing hostages, destroying enemy bases and factories, or escorting friendly forces into hostile territory.
The gameplay of Desert Strike consists of 2D side-scrolling levels where players must use their helicopter's weapons to take out enemies such as tanks, jeeps, turrets and aircraft while avoiding incoming fire. In addition to shooting down enemies with your helicopter's guns or missiles, players can also pick up power-ups such as extra fuel or health packs which will help keep them alive during their mission.
Players have access to a number of different weapons throughout the game including missiles, bombs, napalm and rockets which can be used against ground targets or air units. Each type of weapon has its own advantages and disadvantages depending on its range and damage output so it is important for players to select their weapons wisely based on the situation they are facing.
In addition to the main campaign mode there are also several bonus levels which can be unlocked by completing certain objectives or finding hidden areas in previous levels. These bonus levels offer additional challenges such as rescuing hostages from enemy compounds or surviving waves of incoming enemy forces while protecting allied units.
Desert Strike - Return to the Gulf is an exciting action packed shooter that offers hours of fun for fans of both classic arcade games and modern shooters alike. With its engaging story line and intense gameplay it is easy to see why this game has become one of the most beloved Super Nintendo titles ever released.
