Bill Walsh College Football is a football video game released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1994. The game was developed by High Score Productions and published by EA Sports. It was the second installment of the Bill Walsh College Football series, which began with its predecessor, Bill Walsh College Football '93.
The game featured a variety of college teams from around the country, including traditional powerhouses like Notre Dame and Nebraska, as well as smaller schools like Boise State and Oregon State. Players could choose from either an 11-on-11 or 8-on-8 match up, as well as customize their own team with uniforms and logos. The game also included an exhibition mode where players could choose from any of the available teams to play against each other in a one-off match up.
The gameplay featured a number of features that were not available on other football games at the time. These included full motion video cutscenes featuring highlights from previous games, 3D rendered stadiums (which were then cutting edge) and a unique play editor feature that allowed players to create their own plays. This feature was particularly popular among fans who wanted to recreate classic plays or devise new ones for their teams to use during matches.
The game also had an extensive stat tracking system which allowed players to track individual player stats such as total yards gained, touchdowns thrown/scored, interceptions thrown/caught etc., as well as team stats like total wins/losses and point differential. This feature made it easy for players to compare their performance against other teams in the league or even across different seasons if they wished to do so.
Bill Walsh College Football for Super Nintendo was praised for its realism and attention to detail when it came to both its presentation and gameplay mechanics. Despite being over 25 years old, it still stands today as one of the best college football games ever created, with many citing it as one of the all-time greats on the SNES platform.
