Albert Odyssey is a turn-based role-playing video game developed and published by Sunsoft for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). It was released in Japan on October 27, 1994, and in North America on March 1995. The game was never released in Europe.
The story of Albert Odyssey follows the protagonist, Albert, a young swordsman who lives with his father, a master swordsman named John. When John is killed by an evil sorcerer named Hecuba while defending their village from a monster attack, Albert sets out to avenge his death and save the world from Hecuba's evil plans. Along the way he meets allies such as Eliza, a mysterious girl with magical powers; Gogen, an old man who serves as Albert's mentor; and Tengai, an eccentric inventor who provides him with useful gadgets. Together they must battle monsters and villains as they travel across the continent to reach Hecuba's lair.
The gameplay of Albert Odyssey takes place on an overworld map where players move from one location to another to progress the story. At certain points during the game, players will enter into battles against monsters or bosses that take place on separate battlefields. Battles are turn-based where each character can select up to three actions per turn such as attacking enemies with weapons or magic spells or using items for healing purposes. As characters level up they learn new abilities which can be used in battle to gain an advantage against enemies. In addition to combat there are also puzzles that require players to think strategically in order to progress further in the game.
Albert Odyssey features detailed graphics which showcase various locations throughout its world including forests, deserts and mountains as well as unique characters designs for its allies and foes alike. The music is composed by Yuzo Koshiro who has composed many other soundtracks for other games such as Streets of Rage and Ys I & II Chronicles Plus. The overall atmosphere of Albert Odyssey creates a sense of adventure that draws players into its world and keeps them captivated until the end of the game.
