ActRaiser 2 is a side-scrolling action game released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1993. Developed by Quintet and published by Enix, it is the sequel to ActRaiser, which was released two years earlier.
In ActRaiser 2, players take on the role of The Master, an omnipotent being who has been tasked with restoring life to a world that has been nearly destroyed by an evil entity known as Tanzra. To do this, The Master must traverse through six different areas of the world and complete various tasks related to restoring life. This includes defeating monsters, building settlements, and constructing monuments. As with its predecessor, ActRaiser 2 combines elements of platforming and simulation gaming into one unique experience.
The gameplay of ActRaiser 2 differs from its predecessor in several ways. Players can now choose between two different types of levels: Action Stages and Sim Stages. In Action Stages, players take direct control of The Master as he travels through enemy-filled levels while fighting off monsters with his sword and shield. Sim Stages are more strategic in nature as they require players to manage their own settlement while also protecting it from invading monsters or other threats.
Players gain experience points throughout the game that can be used to upgrade The Master’s abilities such as increased strength or defense power. Various items can also be found scattered throughout the levels that provide additional bonuses when equipped by The Master.
The visuals in ActRaiser 2 are much improved over its predecessor thanks to the enhanced capabilities of the SNES hardware. The environments are larger and more detailed than before, providing a more immersive experience for players as they explore each area of the world. The soundtrack also stands out due to its mix of classic orchestral pieces and modern synthesized music that creates a unique atmosphere for each level type.
Overall, ActRaiser 2 is an excellent sequel that builds upon the original game's core mechanics while also introducing new features such as Sim Stages that add even more depth to the overall experience. Fans of action-adventure games should enjoy exploring all six areas of this world while attempting to restore life back into it once again.
