WWF WrestleMania Challenge is a professional wrestling video game released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1990. Developed by Rare, it was based on the World Wrestling Federation and featured wrestlers from that organization. The game was one of the few NES titles which allowed two players to compete against each other at once.
The objective of WWF WrestleMania Challenge is to battle your way through the ranks of the WWF until you become champion and defend your title against all comers. You start off as a rookie wrestler with no stats and must compete in a series of matches against various opponents. As you win more matches, your stats will increase, allowing you to take on tougher opponents. Each wrestler has their own unique style, making each match different from the last. Along with regular wrestling moves, there are also special moves available to help you win. These include body slams, piledrivers, dropkicks and more.
The game has three different modes: Exhibition mode allows you to set up a one-off match between any two wrestlers; Tournament mode lets you enter into an 8-man tournament with 4 qualifying rounds; and Championship mode allows you to compete in a full season of matches against all 8 wrestlers until you become champion. Once you’ve become champion, the game continues until someone defeats you or until your stamina meter runs out. At this point, your reign as champion ends and another wrestler becomes champion instead.
The graphics for WWF Wrestlemania Challenge are quite basic but still look good for an NES title from 1990. The sprites are colourful and detailed enough to give each wrestler their own distinct look and feel. The sound effects are also quite good for an NES game from this era, featuring crowd cheers when a match begins or ends as well as individual taunts from the wrestlers themselves during battle sequences.
Overall, WWF Wrestlemania Challenge is an enjoyable wrestling experience for both casual gamers and hardcore fans alike that stands up well even today thanks to its simple yet effective gameplay mechanics. It may not be as flashy or exciting as modern wrestling games but it still offers plenty of fun for those looking for a classic wrestling experience on the NES console
