Circus Caper is a classic side-scroller video game released by Nintendo in 1990 for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). The game follows the story of Tommy, a young boy who has been invited to join the circus. His mission is to recover all of the stolen circus animals before the big show starts.

The player must navigate through five levels, each presenting its own unique challenge. The first level takes place in a forest and requires the player to dodge obstacles while collecting coins that can be used to purchase items from vendors. The next level takes place in a haunted house, where Tommy must avoid ghosts and traps while collecting keys to unlock doors. The third level features an underwater journey, where Tommy must avoid sea creatures and collect power-ups that will help him progress further into the game. In the fourth level, Tommy must climb up ladders and platforms while avoiding enemies and obstacles. Finally, in the fifth and final stage, Tommy must battle against several bosses before completing his mission and saving all of the circus animals.

Throughout each stage, players can collect coins which can be used to purchase items such as extra lives or health bonuses from vendors scattered throughout each level. Additionally, there are various power-ups that players can find throughout their adventure including invincibility stars which make them temporarily invincible; extra time clocks which add time onto their clock; and bonus points which increase their score at the end of each stage.

The goal of Circus Caper is for players to complete all five stages without running out of lives or time before ultimately recovering all of the stolen circus animals in time for the show. While this may sound like an easy task on paper, Circus Caper presents its own unique set of challenges for players to figure out along their journey – making it an exciting adventure full of surprises!
