X-Men: Wolverine’s Rage is a classic side-scrolling action game released for the Nintendo Game Boy Color in 2001.
Developed by Bits Studios and published by Activision, the game follows Marvel Comics’ popular character Wolverine as he embarks on a quest to save his fellow X-Men from the evil Stryker.
The player takes control of Wolverine and must battle their way through multiple levels, using the mutant’s claws, super strength, and healing factor to defeat enemies.
The plot of X-Men: Wolverine’s Rage centers around an attack on the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning by William Stryker and his forces.
Stryker has kidnapped many of the Institute's students, including Rogue, Cyclops, Storm, and Jean Grey.
When Logan (Wolverine) hears about this attack he rushes off to save his friends.
Along the way he encounters various villains such as Sabretooth, Juggernaut, Pyro and Mystique who are all working with Stryker in some capacity.
The game culminates with a final showdown between Wolverine and Stryker himself.
Gameplay in X-Men: Wolverine’s Rage consists of side-scrolling action levels that take place both indoors and outdoors.
Players control Wolverine as he runs left or right across the screen while leaping over obstacles such as pits or enemies.
He can also use his claws to slash at opponents or climb up walls and ceilings when necessary.
As players progress through the game they will receive power ups that increase Wolverine’s health bar or give him special abilities such as extra speed or increased damage output from his claws.
In addition to these power ups there are also bonus levels where players must complete mini games such as destroying robots or rescuing hostages in order to gain additional points which can be used to unlock new levels or characters in later stages of play.
Graphically speaking X-Men: Wolverine’s Rage looks great for a Game Boy Color title; it features detailed sprites for all characters along with vibrant colors that really capture the look of Marvel's comic books at their best.
The music is also quite good; it features a mix of rock'n'roll guitar riffs and techno beats that fit perfectly with each stage of gameplay.
Overall X-Men: Wolverine’s Rage is an excellent title for any fan of Marvel Comics or classic side scrolling action games.
It offers fast paced gameplay combined with colorful graphics and catchy music that will keep you entertained for hours on end.
