Bionic Commando - Elite Forces is a classic 2D side-scrolling action platformer game developed and published by Capcom for the Nintendo Game Boy Color. It was released in Japan on August 25, 2000 and in North America on October 20, 2000. The game is a sequel to the original Bionic Commando released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) 11 years earlier in 1989.
In Bionic Commando - Elite Forces, players take control of Nathan "Rad" Spencer as he battles his way through eight levels of enemies set in various locations such as military bases, jungles, and underground lairs. Armed with a bionic arm which can be used to grapple onto ledges and swing from platforms to reach new areas, the player must navigate their way through each level while avoiding or destroying any enemies that get in their way. The bionic arm also has limited range which requires careful positioning when using it to cross gaps or climb walls. In addition to the bionic arm, players can also pick up weapons such as machine guns, rocket launchers, and grenades which can be used against enemies.
The main objective of Bionic Commando - Elite Forces is to complete each level by reaching its end goal while collecting power-ups such as extra lives and health along the way. Enemies come in many forms such as robots, soldiers, tanks, helicopters, spiders and more; all of which must be destroyed before being able to progress further into the game. There are also boss fights at the end of each level which require clever use of the bionic arm combined with weapons in order to defeat them.
Bionic Commando - Elite Forces offers an enjoyable gaming experience with its challenging platforming gameplay and varied enemy encounters. Its visual presentation is also impressive for a Game Boy Color title with detailed sprites and colorful environments that bring life to each level. The memorable soundtrack composed by Junko Tamiya provides an energetic backdrop that fits perfectly with the fast-paced action sequences throughout the game’s 8 levels.
Overall, Bionic Commando - Elite Forces is an enjoyable classic side-scrolling action platformer that offers plenty of challenge and entertainment for fans of old-school gaming on the go. With its exciting gameplay mechanics combined with great visuals and music, this entry in the series remains one of the best games available on Nintendo’s handheld console library today.
