Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective: Volume 2 is a 1993 Sega CD and Mega-CD game developed by ICOM Simulations, Inc. It is the sequel to Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective: Volume 1 and follows the same format of that game. The player takes on the role of Sherlock Holmes, with the goal of solving various mysteries in Victorian London.
The game consists of three cases; "The Case of the Mystified Murderess", "The Case of the Tin Soldier" and "The Case of the Incredible Painting". Each case begins with a briefing from Doctor Watson, which introduces the mystery and provides some background information on possible suspects and clues. After this, it's up to the player to investigate each case, gathering evidence such as newspaper clippings, witness testimonies and more. The player then has to interrogate suspects and witnesses in order to piece together what happened.
At any point during an investigation, players can consult various resources such as books or maps at 221B Baker Street or visit other locations around London. Here they can use their deduction skills to narrow down possibilities or ask additional questions to further their investigation. The goal is for players to solve each case before time runs out or else they will fail.
Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective: Volume 2 features improved graphics compared to its predecessor along with full motion video cutscenes which add atmosphere to investigations. The voice acting is also much better than before, giving each character more life than ever before. Despite being over 20 years old, volume 2 still stands as one of the best detective games available on Sega CD/Mega-CD platforms due its engaging gameplay and excellent presentation.
