Road Rash is a motorcycle racing video game released for the Sega CD (known as Mega-CD outside North America) in 1993. It is the fourth installment of the Road Rash series, following Road Rash 3 from 1992. Developed by Electronic Arts, Road Rash on the Sega CD features improved graphics and sound over its predecessors, as well as some new features.
The game takes place in a fictional world, where you compete against other riders in illegal street races across various locations such as beaches, deserts, and cities. The objective of the game is to finish each race in first place while avoiding police officers and other racers. You can also punch and kick other riders off their bikes to gain an advantage over them. In addition to this, you are able to pick up various weapons such as chains and clubs that can be used to attack your opponents.
The gameplay of Road Rash on the Sega CD is similar to that of previous entries in the series. It uses a top-down perspective with an overhead view of the race track. The controls consist of a digital control pad or joystick for movement and two buttons for acceleration and braking. As you progress through each race, you will earn money which can be used to purchase upgrades for your bike such as better tires or engine parts. This will give you an advantage over your opponents during races as it increases your speed and handling capabilities.
The graphics in Road Rash on Sega CD are much improved compared to its predecessors due to the use of enhanced visuals provided by the system’s hardware capabilities. The tracks now feature more detailed backgrounds with varying terrain types such as mountains, forests, deserts, and beaches. The bikes also look more realistic than those seen in previous games with reflections from sunlight bouncing off their metal surfaces and exhaust smoke billowing from their engines when they accelerate at high speeds.
In addition to this graphical overhaul, Road Rash on Sega CD also includes several new tracks not seen before in any other versions of the game such as a beachside course set near a pier or a city track located inside a parking lot filled with ramps and jumps for performing stunts during races. Players can also choose between three different difficulty settings ranging from Easy Mode which makes races easier by giving players more time to complete them; Normal Mode which provides average difficulty levels; or Hard Mode which ramps up both AI opponent intelligence as well as number of police officers patrolling each track making it harder for players to win races without being arrested by law enforcement officials .
Overall, Road Rash on Sega CD is an excellent installment into this popular franchise that offers improved visuals compared to its predecessors along with some new tracks not seen before plus three difficulty settings that allow players of all skill levels enjoy this classic racing title on one of SEGA’s most powerful systems at the time.
