Play NBA Jam Online
NBA Jam is a sports game that was released for the Sega CD (Mega-CD) in 1994. Developed and published by Electronic Arts, NBA Jam was one of the first basketball games to feature real players from the National Basketball Association (NBA).
The game was designed to be an arcade-style sports title and featured fast-paced action with two-on-two matchups featuring teams of two real NBA players. Players could control either a single player or both players on their team, with each character having unique attributes such as speed, strength, and shooting ability. The game also featured power-ups that could be used to enhance a player's performance or even give them special abilities like increased speed or jump height.
The goal of NBA Jam was to outscore your opponent by making baskets while defending against your opponents’ shots. The game featured a variety of offensive moves such as alley oops, dunks, layups and three-pointers, in addition to defensive strategies such as blocking and stealing from your opponent. Players were also able to use turbo boosts to increase their speed temporarily allowing them to get past defenders more easily.
The graphics in NBA Jam for the Sega CD were considered impressive for its time, with detailed sprites representing all of the players on the court and realistic animations for each move. The sound effects were also well done and included crowd noises and commentary from announcer Tim Kitzrow who provided humorous quips throughout the game which added an extra layer of enjoyment for players.
Overall, NBA Jam was an enjoyable basketball title that provided hours of fun thanks to its pick-up-and-play style of gameplay and its entertaining visuals and sound effects. While it may have been overshadowed by later titles in the series such as NBA Hangtime or NBA Street V3, it still stands out as an enjoyable classic that fans can enjoy today thanks to emulation on modern systems like the PC or Mac.
