FIFA International Soccer is a soccer video game developed by Electronic Arts and released for the Sega Mega-CD in 1993. It was the first FIFA game to be released for a console, and was the first soccer game to use an isometric viewpoint. The game featured teams from several countries around the world, including England, Italy, USA, Germany, Argentina and Brazil. Players could choose to play a single match or participate in a full season with up to 8 teams.
The gameplay of FIFA International Soccer is based on that of its predecessor, John Madden Football. Players control their team using the D-pad to move players around the field and the buttons to pass and shoot. The game also features an innovative 3D view which allowed players to view their team from any angle on the field. This feature was later adopted by other soccer games such as Sensible Soccer and World Cup '98.
Players can customize their team by selecting which players they want on their team as well as what formation they want them to play in. There are also various options for changing the style of play such as playing more attacking or defensive football depending on what kind of strategy you wish to use.
The graphics in FIFA International Soccer are quite basic but still have some nice touches such as player animations when shooting or passing the ball and realistic crowd noises when scoring goals or making tackles. The music is upbeat and adds a great atmosphere to each match while sound effects such as whistles or cheers help further bring out the spirit of each match.
Overall FIFA International Soccer is an enjoyable soccer simulation that has aged surprisingly well given its age. It may not have had all of the features of modern day soccer games but it certainly captured people’s imaginations back when it was released in 1993 and remains one of EA's classic titles today.
