Virtua Fighter is a fighting game series created by Sega-AM2 and was originally released in 1993 as an arcade game. It is the first 3D fighting game ever created, and it spawned several sequels throughout the years. The series has also been ported to various home consoles, including the Sega Saturn, Dreamcast, PlayStation 2, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 4.

The original Virtua Fighter was developed by Yu Suzuki, who wanted to create a realistic fighting simulation game. He used motion capture technology to capture the moves of real martial artists and replicated them onscreen for players to use in the game. This gave Virtua Fighter its distinctive look and feel that set it apart from other fighting games at the time.

The gameplay of Virtua Fighter revolves around one-on-one battles between two fighters in an arena. Players can choose from a variety of characters with different backgrounds and martial arts styles such as karate, judo, boxing, sumo wrestling, kickboxing and ninjutsu. Each character has their own unique moveset that players must master in order to be successful in battle.

The objective is to deplete your opponent’s health bar by executing combos or performing special moves or throws. The player can also make use of various items scattered around the arena such as rocks or walls to gain an advantage over their opponent. Once a fighter’s health bar reaches zero they are knocked out and the match is over.

Virtua Fighter was initially released for arcades but was later ported to various home console systems including the Sega 32X which allowed players to play it on their TVs without having access to an arcade machine. The port featured all of the original content from the arcade version along with additional features such as a practice mode for honing skills and improved graphics due to the more powerful hardware available on home consoles at that time.

Virtua Fighter has since become one of Sega’s most iconic franchises with five main entries in its series plus numerous spinoff titles across multiple platforms throughout its lifespan so far. With its realistic visuals and combat system, Virtua Fighter continues to be enjoyed by fans around the world today making it one of gaming’s most beloved franchises even after 25 years since its debut on Sega's 32X console system back in 1993
