Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, released in 1995 for the Sega Genesis Mega Drive, is a fighting game that is part of the long-running and beloved Mortal Kombat series. It was the last iteration of the original Mortal Kombat trilogy and featured improved graphics, smoother animation, and more balanced gameplay than its predecessors.
The story takes place after Shao Kahn’s victory in Mortal Kombat 2. He has conquered Earthrealm, but before he can claim it completely, Raiden must gather together a team of warriors from different realms to challenge him. The player chooses one of these characters and engages in a series of fights against various opponents, ultimately challenging Shao Kahn himself.
Gameplay consists of two players controlling characters who battle each other using punches, kicks, special moves and weapons to deplete their opponent's health bar. The game also features a variety of finishing moves called "Fatalities" which can be used to end a match quickly if executed correctly. Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 also introduced several new characters as well as additional stages and music tracks compared to earlier versions of the game.
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 was highly praised upon release for its improved visuals compared to previous installments as well as its smooth gameplay mechanics and balance between characters. It was also lauded for introducing several new characters such as Cyrax, Sektor and Ermac who provided an interesting dynamic to the roster. To this day it remains one of the most popular entries in the series with many fans still playing it thanks to emulation or re-releases on modern systems such as Xbox Live Arcade or PlayStation Network.
