Super Return of the Jedi is a video game released for the Sega Game Gear in 1995. It is based on the 1983 film Return of the Jedi, and was developed by Scavenger Inc. and published by Sega. The game follows Luke Skywalker as he battles his way through Jabba’s Palace, Endor, and then ultimately to a confrontation with Darth Vader in the Death Star II.
The game begins with Luke Skywalker arriving at Jabba’s palace to rescue Han Solo from captivity. After navigating through the palace and defeating various enemies, including Boba Fett, Luke rescues Han before they both escape the palace. The next level takes place on Endor where Luke must battle his way to an Imperial outpost. Along the way he must contend with Imperial Stormtroopers, Scouts Troopers, Ewoks, and other enemies. Once he reaches the outpost he will be confronted by Darth Vader himself who must be defeated in order to continue on to the final stage of the game; a battle inside Death Star II against Emperor Palpatine.
Gameplay consists mostly of side-scrolling action where players control Luke Skywalker as he moves from left to right while shooting enemies or using his lightsaber to defeat them. Players can also collect power-ups such as health packs or special weapons like proton torpedoes which can be used against enemies or bosses throughout levels. Additionally, players can also collect coins that can later be used in a shop accessed between levels that sells items such as upgrades for health or ammunition packs for special weapons.
The graphics are fairly basic but still quite impressive considering it was released on a handheld system back in 1995. The characters are all well-animated and look quite detailed while backgrounds feature vibrant colors that bring these worlds alive with life-like environments and scenery.
The soundtrack of Super Return of the Jedi is very reminiscent of that found in its source material; featuring memorable themes from John Williams’ iconic score for Return of the Jedi which really helps bring this experience closer to home for fans of this movie franchise.
Overall Super Return of the Jedi is an enjoyable game that does justice to its source material; offering fans an exciting adventure across iconic locations from Star Wars lore along with great visuals and music from John Williams' score making it worth playing if you’re looking for some classic gaming fun on your Game Gear console .
