NHL All-Star Hockey is a sports video game released for the Sega Game Gear in 1994. It was developed by Sega and was published by Sega of America. The game is based on the National Hockey League (NHL) and features all 28 teams from the league at the time of its release.
Players are able to select their favorite team, customize their lineup, and take part in exhibition and season mode games. Exhibition mode allows players to play against any other team in the league while season mode allows them to play a full 82-game season with playoffs and Stanley Cup finals. The game also features options to adjust difficulty levels, period length, line changes, penalties, offsides rules, shot speed and more.
The game includes a variety of different player animations such as skating, passing and shooting as well as realistic crowd sounds during gameplay. Players are able to choose from three different camera angles; overhead view which shows the entire rink; close up view which zooms in on specific players or areas; or side view which follows the action along one side of the rink.
The graphics in NHL All-Star Hockey are colorful with detailed sprites for each player including goalie masks and equipment. The rink is realistically designed with boards around it as well as penalty boxes located near each goal line. There are several background elements such as scoreboards, cheering crowds, jumbotrons featuring replays of goals or saves, and more that enhance the atmosphere of playing a professional hockey game.
The sound effects are quite good with realistic crowd noise when a goal is scored or when an opposing player takes a penalty shot. There’s also commentary during gameplay provided by two announcers who comment on various aspects of the match such as missed shots or great plays made by either team.
NHL All-Star Hockey is an enjoyable hockey game that appeals to both casual gamers and hardcore fans alike due to its detailed graphics and sound effects as well as its customizable options that allow players to tailor their gaming experience according to their preference. It’s an excellent way for hockey fans to get their fix without having to go out onto an actual ice rink!
