Putt & Putter is a golf game for the Sega Game Gear, released in 1992. It was developed by SIMS Co., Ltd. and published by Sega. The game features nine courses with two difficulty levels each. Players can choose to play alone or against up to three computer opponents.
The game begins with an introductory sequence that gives some basic information about playing golf, such as how to use the club selection menu and how to read the power meter. After this, players are taken to the course selection screen where they can choose from one of the nine available courses. Each course has its own unique design and obstacles, ranging from sand traps and water hazards to trees and other objects that can affect the player’s shots.
Once a course is chosen, players must select their clubs before starting a round of golf. The club selection menu displays all of the available clubs along with their corresponding power ratings (which range from weak to strong). Players must also decide which direction they want their ball to go by adjusting the cursor on the power meter located at the bottom of the screen. The farther away from center a player moves their cursor, the more powerful their shot will be in that direction (left or right).
Once these settings are determined, players hit their ball off the tee using either a “power shot” (for maximum distance) or an “accuracy shot” (for precision). As players make their way around the course they must stay within par for each hole in order to win. If players miss too many shots, they will lose strokes and eventually run out of chances if they don’t make up for it soon enough.
Putt & Putter offers several options that allow players to customize their experience even further. For example, there is an option that allows players to adjust wind speed/direction as well as ball spin while putting, which can help them get closer shots when lining up putts on long holes. Additionally, there is also an option where players can select different types of balls (such as those made of wood or plastic) which have different properties and react differently when struck with a club or putted on greens.
Overall, Putt & Putter is an enjoyable golf game that offers plenty of replay value due to its wide variety of courses and customization options. It’s easy enough for beginners yet challenging enough for experienced golfers looking for an extra challenge on their Game Gear console.
