NFL '95 is a football video game released by Sega for the Game Gear handheld console in 1995. The game was developed by Visual Concepts and published by Sega of America. It is the first in a series of NFL licensed games released for the Sega Game Gear, followed by NFL '96 and NFL '97.
The game features all 28 teams from the 1994–95 season, including the expansion Jacksonville Jaguars. The player can choose to play an exhibition match or a full season, with up to 8 teams competing in a single league. The game uses a top-down view of the field and allows players to control individual players or an entire team as they attempt to score touchdowns and make defensive stops.
The controls are simple and intuitive, allowing for quick reaction times during game play. Players can pass, run, kick, punt and perform other football maneuvers with ease. There are also various offensive formations available such as I-Formation or Pro-Set which can be used to better suit your team’s style of play.
The graphics in NFL '95 are quite basic but still effective at conveying the action on screen. Player sprites are well animated while the stadiums look good with detailed backgrounds that contain fans cheering in the stands. The sound effects are also fairly decent with realistic crowd noise that helps create an immersive atmosphere during matches.
Overall NFL '95 is an enjoyable American Football experience for those looking for some quick gaming fun on their Game Gear system. While it does lack some features found in its console counterparts such as customizable teams and multiple camera angles it still delivers a solid football experience that should please most fans of the sport.
