Desert Speedtrap is a side-scrolling racing game for the Sega Game Gear, starring Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote. The game follows the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon series of the same name, in which Wile E. Coyote chases Road Runner throughout the desert in an attempt to catch him. In this game, however, both characters are competing against each other in a race through the dessert.

The objective of Desert Speedtrap is to finish each level as quickly as possible while collecting power-ups along the way. Power-ups include extra speed boosts, invincibility stars and shields that protect you from obstacles like cacti and rocks. As with any racing game, you must avoid obstacles while maintaining your speed in order to win each level.

In Single Player Mode, you take control of either Road Runner or Wile E Coyote as they race against time on their own tracks; while in Versus Mode two players can compete against each other simultaneously on a split screen version of one track.
