Rex Ronan – Experimental Surgeon is a super Nintendo game released in 1994. The game was developed by Beam Software and published by Acclaim Entertainment. It is a side-scrolling platformer game with a medical theme, where the player takes on the role of Rex Ronan, an experimental surgeon tasked with saving the world from an alien virus.
The story starts off with Rex needing to save his father, who has been infected with the alien virus. After Rex finds and successfully cures his father, he sets out to save the world from this pandemic. To do this, he must travel through six different zones and collect all seven pieces of evidence needed to prove that the virus is not of human origin. Along the way he will face many obstacles such as enemies, traps and puzzles which he must overcome in order to progress.
The gameplay consists of platforming action and puzzle solving. In each level, Rex must traverse obstacles while avoiding enemies or using weapons against them if necessary. He can also collect power ups such as health kit restoration and weapon upgrades which will make him more powerful against foes. Additionally there are puzzles scattered throughout each level which require logical thinking in order to progress further into the game.
The graphics for Rex Ronan – Experimental Surgeon are colorful and detailed for its time period, with vibrant environments that have plenty of character detail for each zone Rex visits. The music in the game is quite fitting for its theme; it’s mostly upbeat electronic tunes that match well with the action taking place on screen.
