Final Fantasy II is a role-playing video game developed and published by Square for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1988. It is the second installment of the Final Fantasy series, following the original Final Fantasy. The story follows four orphaned youths who are drawn into a conflict to save their world from the evil Emperor of Palamecia. The four main characters are Firion, Maria, Guy, and Leon.
The game uses a turn-based battle system and features character classes such as Fighter, White Mage, Black Mage, Thief, and Red Mage. Each character has unique stats that can be increased through leveling up or by using special items called "statues". Characters can also learn special abilities through use of magic spells and weapons found throughout the game. The game also features side quests and mini games which can be completed for rewards.
The game's plot revolves around an ongoing war between two nations: Palamecia and Fynn. Palamecia is led by an evil emperor who seeks to conquer all other nations under his rule. When Fynn begins to resist his tyranny, Emperor Mateus sends an army to take control of Fynn's capital city. With the help of Princess Hilda of Fynn, our heroes journey across various lands in order to gain allies in their fight against Palamecia. Along the way they will encounter monsters, puzzles, traps and powerful bosses that must be defeated before they can reach their ultimate goal: defeating Emperor Mateus himself!
Final Fantasy II was praised for its innovative battle system as well as its engaging storyline. It was also one of the first RPGs to feature multiple endings based on player choices made throughout the course of the game - this feature would become a staple in later installments of the series. Although it didn't achieve mainstream success in North America due to its limited release there (it was released only in Japan until 2002), Final Fantasy II has become a cult classic among RPG fans worldwide thanks to its memorable characters and story line.
