The Death and Return of Superman is a Super Nintendo game based on the DC Comics storyline of the same name. It was released in late 1994, shortly after the comic book series was completed.

The story follows Superman as he battles Doomsday, a powerful creature created by Lex Luthor, who has been wreaking havoc throughout Metropolis. Doomsday eventually kills Superman, which causes great upheaval in the city. However, four new heroes – Steel, Superboy, The Eradicator and Cyborg Superman – arrive to take up the fight against Doomsday in Superman’s absence. In the end, these four heroes are able to defeat Doomsday and bring Superman back to life.

The game itself is a side-scrolling beat 'em up with two-player simultaneous play. Players control one of the four heroes as they battle their way through levels filled with enemies from Lex Luthor's forces. The ultimate goal is to reach Doomsday and take him down before he can do any more damage to Metropolis. Along the way players will find power-ups that allow them to upgrade their abilities, such as increased strength or invincibility for a limited time.

Players must also navigate various obstacles such as bottomless pits and crumbling platforms while avoiding enemy attacks and projectiles. As they progress through each level they will encounter various bosses that need to be defeated before moving on to the next stage. Each hero has their own special moves that can be used against enemies or bosses; for example Steel can throw objects at his opponents while Superboy can use his super speed to quickly move around enemies and projectiles alike.

The Death and Return of Superman is considered an important part of gaming history due its faithful adaptation of the comic book storyline it is based on, along with its innovative gameplay mechanics and graphics for its time period. It remains a popular title among fans today who appreciate its simple yet challenging gameplay design combined with its exciting story elements from DC Comics’ iconic characters.
