Battle Blaze is a 1993 fighting game for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). It was developed by Aicom and published by Takara. The game features a unique combination of traditional fighting game mechanics with a fantasy RPG-style storyline.
The story follows Blaze, an orphaned knight who is on a quest to save his kingdom from the forces of evil. He is joined by his friend, the sorceress Lina, who helps him in his quest. Along the way they will face many opponents in one-on-one battles and eventually make their way to the final showdown against Blaze’s arch nemesis, Lord Goenitz.
Players can choose from six characters, each with their own unique movesets and special abilities. Each character has two different attack styles: standard attacks and special attacks. Standard attacks are simple punches and kicks while special moves are more powerful techniques that require energy to use. Players can also collect power-ups throughout the levels which allow them to perform even more powerful attacks or restore health points.
The game has two modes: Story Mode and Versus Mode. In Story Mode players go through each level fighting enemies until they reach the end boss battle against Lord Goenitz. Versus Mode allows players to fight against each other or practice their skills against computer opponents.
Battle Blaze features high quality graphics for its time, with detailed sprites and well animated backgrounds during fights. The music is composed by Yoko Shimomura who would later become famous for her work on titles such as Street Fighter II Turbo and Kingdom Hearts series.
Overall Battle Blaze is an interesting mix of traditional fighting game mechanics with RPG elements that gives it a unique feel compared to most other games of its era. The graphics are impressive for its time and although it may not be as popular as some other SNES titles it still offers some fun gameplay for fans of both genres.
