Yoshi’s Cookie is a puzzle game originally released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1992. Developed by Bullet-Proof Software and published by Nintendo, Yoshi’s Cookie is a unique twist on traditional sliding block puzzles. The player takes control of Yoshi, the lovable Mario series character, and must arrange cookies into rows or columns of the same type. It was one of the few NES titles to feature Yoshi as the main character.

The game starts with a grid of randomly arranged cookies that Yoshi must organize into rows or columns of the same type before time runs out. The player can move any cookie in any direction as long as it has an open space to move into. When two or more matching cookies are lined up horizontally or vertically, they automatically disappear from the board and points are awarded based on how many cookies were cleared at once. Clearing multiple rows or columns simultaneously gives higher scores than clearing individual cookies. As time passes, more cookies appear on the screen until eventually there are too many for Yoshi to handle and he loses a life.

Yoshi’s Cookie features several different modes of play including Puzzle mode which requires players to clear all the cookies from a level within a certain amount of time; Endurance mode where players attempt to last as long as possible without losing all their lives; and Challenge mode which is similar to Puzzle mode but with varying levels of difficulty. Players can also choose between playing solo or competing against another player in two-player Versus mode with alternating turns.

Yoshi’s Cookie was well received upon release and praised for its simple yet addictive gameplay. Its colorful graphics and catchy music added to its charm making it one of the most popular NES titles ever released. The game has since seen numerous ports and remakes for other systems including Game Boy Color, Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), Nintendo 64 (N64), Game Boy Advance (GBA), WiiWare, iOS, Android, Xbox Live Arcade (XBLA), Windows 8 Store and Steam Store among others.
