Play Willow Online
Willow is a classic side-scrolling action-adventure video game, released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1989. Developed by Capcom and published by the now defunct Jaleco, it was one of the few NES titles to feature a female protagonist. The story follows Willow Ufgood, a young Nelwyn (elf) who embarks on an epic quest to save his homeland from destruction by an evil queen.
The game begins in the peaceful kingdom of Tir Asleen, where Willow is living with his family. All is well until Queen Bavmorda and her dark forces invade and take control, destroying everything in their wake. Willow’s father is killed during the attack and he narrowly escapes with his life.
Armed with nothing but courage and determination, Willow sets off on a journey to defeat Queen Bavmorda and restore peace to Tir Asleen. Along the way he meets allies such as Madmartigan, a brave knight; Fin Raziel, an enchantress; and Franjean and Rool, two magical brownies who provide comic relief throughout his quest. He also encounters enemies like giant spiders, killer bees and other creatures of darkness.
Willow must travel through four different worlds: Tir Asleen (his homeland), Nockmaar (Queen Bavmorda’s castle), Sorsha (the world of magic) and Ilaness (the land of giants). Each world consists of multiple levels that require different strategies for completion – some involve platforming while others are more puzzle-oriented or combat-focused. Additionally, each level has its own unique boss battle that requires quick reflexes and clever tactics to overcome.
The game features unique power-ups that can be collected throughout the levels such as health potions, magic spells and extra lives. Additionally there are various weapons available such as swords, bows & arrows, bombs and fireballs which can be used against enemies in order to progress further into the game.
Willow has been praised for its beautiful graphics which capture the fantasy setting perfectly; its memorable characters; its challenging gameplay; as well as its overall replay value – making it one of the most beloved titles on the NES console. It remains a timeless classic that continues to bring joy to gamers around the world today!
