Track & Field II is a classic video game for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) released in 1988. Developed and published by Konami, the game is a sequel to the original Track & Field. The main goal of the game is to compete in a variety of Olympic events such as track and field athletics, swimming, weightlifting, and others.
The game features four events per round with five rounds total. Players can choose from seven countries: USA, Japan, Germany, France, Italy, Russia, and China. Each country has its own unique set of athletes that have different skillsets in each event. For example, one athlete might be better at sprints while another might specialize in long-distance running or jumping events.
Players control their athletes by pressing buttons on the NES controller to make them run faster or jump higher. As players progress through each round they can earn points that will allow them to upgrade their athletes’ abilities such as speed or strength. The goal is to reach the highest score possible before time runs out.
In addition to competing against other countries’ athletes in standard events like the 100-meter dash or high jump, there are also bonus events such as ski-jumping and boxing where players can earn extra points if they succeed at completing them quickly enough. There are also special “power ups” scattered throughout each level which can give players a temporary boost of speed or strength when collected.
The graphics for Track & Field II are quite basic but still manage to capture the excitement of participating in an Olympic event. The soundtrack consists mostly of upbeat music which fits well with the energetic nature of the game play.
Overall Track & Field II is a great game for those looking for some quick action-packed fun on their NES console. With its simple yet challenging gameplay and wide range of events it provides hours of replay value for those who enjoy competing against themselves or friends alike. It may not be as graphically impressive as modern games but it still stands up today as one of the best sports titles available on the NES platform.
