Baseball is a classic sports video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). The game was released in 1983 in Japan and North America, and later in Europe in 1987.

The game is based on the sport of baseball, with players controlling teams of two to nine players. The object of the game is to score more runs than the opposing team by hitting the ball and running around four bases. The player controls their team from an overhead view of the field, selecting pitches and swing timing for their batters. Pitches are varied between fastballs, curves, sliders, knuckleballs, change-ups, sinkers, splitters and screwballs. Players can also select different batting stances for their batters as well as fielding positions for their defense.

The NES version of Baseball features two modes: Exhibition mode which allows one or two players to play against each other or against the computer; and League mode which allows up to eight players to compete against each other in a season-like format. In both modes, players can customize their teams by selecting from a variety of pre-defined rosters or creating their own custom teams.

The graphics in Baseball are quite basic but still effective at conveying what is happening on screen. All players are represented by simple sprites with no facial features or uniforms visible. When a player hits a ball they will run around the bases while a line graphic follows them along behind them indicating how far they have gone. Fielding is done using an arrow cursor that appears when near an opposing player’s ball and pressing buttons to select where you want your fielder to go after it.

The sound effects in Baseball are also quite basic but still serve their purpose well enough when playing the game. There’s no music during gameplay but there are some sound effects such as cheering crowds when someone scores a run or an umpire calling out “strike” or “ball” when pitches are thrown.

Overall Baseball for NES is a fun classic sports title that provides plenty of replay value thanks to its customizable teams and multiple gameplay modes. It may not be groundbreaking compared to modern sports titles but it still provides hours of enjoyment for those who enjoy simpler games with retro style visuals and audio effects.
