Square no Tom Sawyer is a classic Japanese role-playing game (RPG) developed and published by Enix for the Famicom and Nintendo Entertainment System in 1986. The game follows the adventures of Tom Sawyer, a young boy living in the fictional town of St. Petersburg, Missouri. He is joined by his best friend Huckleberry Finn and together they embark on an epic quest to find treasure, battle monsters and save their hometown from danger.
The story begins when Tom and Huck are exploring a nearby cave and discover a mysterious stone tablet inscribed with strange symbols. Later that night, they are visited by a man named Injun Joe who reveals that the tablet contains instructions for finding buried treasure. He tasks them with retrieving it before his rival, the evil Dr. Robinson, can get his hands on it. Armed with only their wits and courage, the boys set off on an adventure that will take them all over St. Petersburg and beyond.
As they journey through the countryside, Tom and Huck encounter many colorful characters such as river pirates, Native Americans, bandits, ghosts and more. Players must explore each area thoroughly in order to find items that can be used to progress further into their quest - such as keys to unlock doors or special weapons to fight powerful enemies. Along the way they will also come across dungeons which contain puzzles that must be solved in order to advance further into the game’s story line.
One unique aspect of Square no Tom Sawyer is its turn-based combat system where players must strategically choose which attacks or spells to use against their opponents in order to win battles. At various points throughout the game players will also have access to special items which can be used for healing or other beneficial effects during battle sequences.
Overall Square no Tom Sawyer is a fun and challenging RPG experience that offers plenty of exploration, puzzles solving and strategic combat elements for players to enjoy. It’s an excellent choice for those looking for a classic RPG experience on the NES/Famicom platform!
