Might and Magic is a classic role-playing video game for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Developed by New World Computing, it was released in 1986 and is one of the earliest RPG’s on the NES. The game follows a group of adventurers who are sent on a quest to save their kingdom from an evil wizard known as Sheltem.
The game starts with the player creating four characters, each with their own unique class and attributes. They can choose from 8 different classes ranging from warriors and clerics to thieves and wizards. Once the characters have been created, they embark on their journey to save their kingdom.
The world of Might and Magic consists of several towns, dungeons and outdoor areas that are connected by roads. Players must explore these locations in order to find items, weapons, armor and spells that will help them in their quest. There are also numerous monsters that must be fought in order to progress through the game.
Combat takes place on a turn-based system similar to Dungeons & Dragons. Players can use weapons or spells depending on the situation at hand. As players progress through the game they will gain experience points which will allow them to level up their characters, making them stronger and more capable of taking down tougher enemies.
Might and Magic features an array of puzzles which require creative thinking in order to solve them. These puzzles range from simple logic problems to difficult mazes that require multiple steps in order to reach a solution. Some puzzles also involve players having to talk with NPCs (non-player characters) in order to receive information or items necessary for progression through the game’s story line.
The graphics in Might and Magic are quite basic but still manage to capture the essence of its fantasy setting quite well thanks to its colorful palette and detailed sprites. The soundtrack is similarly simplistic but still manages to create an immersive atmosphere thanks its catchy tunes which set up a great backdrop for exploration and combat sequences alike.
Might & Magic has become one of the most beloved RPGs for NES due its engaging storyline, challenging puzzles and simple yet effective combat system which have kept players coming back time after time since its release over 30 years ago!
