Herakles no Eikou 2 - Titan no Metsubou (Glory of Heracles 2 - The Descent of Titans) is a role-playing video game developed by Data East and released in Japan for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1989. It is the sequel to Glory of Heracles, which was released the previous year.
The game follows the protagonist, Heracles, as he attempts to save the gods of Olympus from a powerful force known as the Titans. The player must explore dungeons and battle monsters in order to progress through the story. As with its predecessor, Glory of Heracles 2 features an elemental system where different elements are used to counter certain attacks or spells, and characters can equip special weapons and armor that have different elemental properties.
The story begins with Heracles being summoned by Zeus to help restore peace to Olympus after it has been invaded by Titans. He is joined by a variety of companions throughout his journey, including Athena, Poseidon, Apollo, Demeter and Hades. Along their adventure they discover that it was actually Prometheus who had unleashed the Titans upon Olympus in order to exact revenge on Zeus for imprisoning him in Tartarus thousands of years ago.
Athena guides Heracles and his companions on their quest as they travel across Greece and fight off monsters while exploring ancient ruins in search for answers about how to stop Prometheus’ plan. As they progress through their journey they will eventually come face-to-face with Prometheus himself at Mount Othrys where they must battle him if they are to save Olympus from destruction.
Glory of Heracles 2 is one of the few early Japanese role-playing games released for the NES outside Japan, although it was only available in English-speaking regions through import stores or fan translations. The original version was also re-released on the Wii Virtual Console in 2008 but has since been taken down due to copyright issues regarding music samples used within the game.
Despite its age, Glory of Heracles 2 still remains popular among fans today due to its unique setting and story combined with classic RPG gameplay elements such as turn-based combat and exploration mechanics reminiscent of earlier titles like Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy. While not as well known as other games from its time period such as The Legend of Zelda or Metroid, Glory of Heracles 2 offers a unique experience that stands out among other NES RPGs even today
