Kabuki – Quantum Fighter is a side-scrolling action game developed and published by HAL Laboratory in 1990 for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). The game’s story revolves around a young boy named Hayato, who is sent into the future to battle an evil computer program known as “Skullmageddon”. In order to defeat Skullmageddon and save his friends from being turned into cyborgs, Hayato must use his special ability of quantum transformation. By transforming himself into various animals, he can gain new abilities that will help him on his mission.

The gameplay of Kabuki – Quantum Fighter is similar to other side-scrolling action games of the era with the addition of Hayato’s unique quantum transformation ability. As Hayato moves through each level, he will encounter enemies that must be defeated before progressing further. In order to defeat these enemies, Hayato must transform himself into different animals such as a bee, frog or rhinoceros. When transformed into one of these animals, Hayato has access to new attacks and abilities that will be needed to defeat tougher enemies and progress through the level. Along with combat, there are also platforming sections where Hayato must make use of his double jump ability in order to reach higher platforms or cross large gaps.

Throughout the game’s levels, there are several power ups that can be found which can increase Hayato’s health or give him temporary invincibility. Additionally, there are also hidden items scattered throughout each level which can provide bonus points when collected. At specific points in each level there will also be minigames which require quick reflexes and memorization in order to succeed and earn extra points.

Kabuki – Quantum Fighter features colorful graphics and a memorable soundtrack with catchy tunes that add to the overall atmosphere of the game.
