The game begins with Mowgli being chased by Shere Khan through a jungle setting. As players progress, they will encounter various enemies such as elephants, snakes and monkeys that must be defeated in order to continue. Throughout each level there are various collectibles such as coins, gems and fruit which must be collected in order to score points and progress further into the game. There are also power-ups which can give Mowgli temporary invincibility or additional health points when needed.

The Jungle Book also features a two-player mode where players can take turns playing as Mowgli or Shere Khan in order to challenge each other for high scores. This mode allows players to compete against one another while still experiencing all of the same levels and gameplay elements found in single-player mode.
