Family Circuit is a racing video game developed and published by Nintendo for the NES in 1991. The game is set in a fictional world of anthropomorphic animals, and the player takes control of one of six selectable characters, each with their own unique vehicle. The objective of the game is to compete against five other computer-controlled racers on various tracks around the world.
The game begins with an animated introduction sequence that introduces the six playable characters and their vehicles. These include Larry Lion driving a yellow sports car, Tom Tiger driving a white off-road vehicle, Bob Bear driving a red racecar, Wendy Wolf driving a pink sports car, Sandy Squirrel driving an orange van, and Jack Rabbit driving a blue dragster. After selecting the character they will play as, the player can then choose from four different modes of play: Grand Prix Mode, Single Race Mode, Time Trial Mode, and Battle Mode.
In Grand Prix Mode, players compete against five computer-controlled racers in three different circuits around the world: North America (New York City), Europe (London), and Japan (Tokyo). Each circuit consists of five tracks that have different obstacles such as jumps and tunnels that must be navigated while avoiding other cars or obstacles on the track. Players can earn points by finishing in first place in each race; these points are used to determine overall rankings at the end of each circuit.
In Single Race Mode, players can choose any track from any circuit to compete against up to five computer-controlled opponents. In Time Trial Mode, players must complete one lap as quickly as possible without crashing or running out of time; records are kept for each track completed successfully in this mode. Finally, in Battle Mode players can compete against up to five computer-controlled opponents on specially designed battle courses filled with power ups such as boosts and weapons like missiles that can be used to attack other competitors.
Overall Family Circuit is an enjoyable racing game that offers many hours of entertainment for all ages. With its colorful graphics and catchy soundtrack it’s easy to see why it remains one of Nintendo’s classic games even today. Whether playing alone or with friends it’s sure to provide hours of fun competition!
