Empire City: 1931 is a Nintendo NES game released in 1989. It is a side-scrolling action-adventure game set in the fictional city of Empire City during the Prohibition Era. The player takes control of the protagonist, Gino, and must navigate their way through the city, fighting enemies and completing various missions.
The game begins with Gino being tasked by his boss to find and return a package that was stolen by rival gangsters. Gino must traverse through Empire City’s five districts to complete this mission. Each district has its own unique characteristics and challenges, such as gang hideouts, obstacles, and puzzles. The objective is to reach each district’s end point while fighting off enemy gangsters along the way. Alongside his fists and feet, Gino can also use a variety of weapons to fight off enemies, including guns and explosives.
Gino will also encounter various NPCs throughout the game who can provide him with hints or tasks that he must complete. These tasks range from finding missing items for people to participating in car chases or races against other gangsters. Completing these tasks can reward Gino with money or items which can be used to purchase upgrades for his weapons or health regeneration items from local stores.
As Gino progresses through the districts, he will eventually come across bosses which he must defeat in order to progress further into the story. Defeating these bosses will reward him with special items which can be used to unlock new areas or gain access to secret levels within each district.
Once all five districts are completed and Gino has recovered the stolen package, he must face off against Big Boss in an epic finale battle before being allowed to leave Empire City victorious!
