It was one of the first educational games released for the NES and was also one of the few games released for the system that included a special controller.
In Donkey Kong Jr. Math, players take control of Donkey Kong Jr., who must rescue his father from Mario’s clutches by solving math problems correctly. At the start of each level, Donkey Kong Jr. appears on the bottom-left side of the screen with a basket full of fruit. The player must use this fruit to solve math equations that appear at the top-right side of the screen. Each equation consists of two numbers and an operator (+, -, * or /). Players must select one piece of fruit from their basket which corresponds to either number or operator in order to complete each equation correctly and move onto the next level.
The game also features several bonus rounds which involve collecting coins or stars while avoiding enemies such as Snapjaws and Sparkies. These bonus rounds increase in difficulty throughout each level and can be used to earn extra points. Additionally, there are several power-ups available which can help Donkey Kong Jr. on his quest including invincibility stars and speed boosts.

The game’s bright graphics and catchy music make it an enjoyable experience for all ages. Furthermore, its simple yet challenging gameplay makes it perfect for both young children just starting out with math as well as older players looking for an entertaining way to brush up on their skills!
