City Connection is an arcade-style action game developed by Jaleco for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The game was released in 1985 and was one of the earliest titles released for the NES. The goal of City Connection is to drive a car through various cities, painting all of the roads with white paint while avoiding obstacles such as police cars and oil slicks.
The player controls a small white car that moves across the top-down view of each city. As they move around, they must avoid police cars that patrol the area and try to catch them. If caught, the player will lose a life. In addition, there are various obstacles such as oil slicks that can slow down or stop the car if driven over. The player must also avoid cats that appear randomly on the road; if hit by one, they will lose a life as well.
The main objective of City Connection is to paint all of the roads in each city with white paint before time runs out. As the player drives around, they will leave behind a trail of white paint that gradually covers more and more of each city’s roads. Once all roads have been painted, they can proceed to the next city. There are five cities in total: Tokyo, London, New York, San Francisco and Paris.
In order to keep track of how much progress has been made in each city, City Connection includes a “map” feature which displays an overhead view of each level showing where areas have yet to be painted and where obstacles lie ahead. This feature can be used to plan out routes in order to maximize efficiency when painting roads or avoiding pursuers such as police cars.
In addition to painting roads and avoiding obstacles, City Connection also features bonus levels which appear after certain sections are completed or when certain conditions are met (such as collecting all coins). These bonus levels involve driving around an obstacle course within a set amount of time while collecting items along the way; completing these levels rewards points which can be used to purchase upgrades for your car such as better acceleration or increased speed limiters.
Overall, City Connection is an enjoyable action game with simple yet challenging gameplay mechanics that make it fun for players old and new alike. Its vibrant visuals also add to its charm making it an entertaining title that stands out among other NES classics from its era.
